For a much deeper dive into the business philosophy/social responisbility of Whole Foods Market, check out John Mackey’s Blog. Yep, late last month Whole Foods Market CEO began blogging.
Mackey’s initial posting is less a blog entry and more about giving us access to a very insightful article from Reason magazine on “Rethinking the Social Responsibility of Business.” The article is a debate pitting the business philosophies of John Mackey with uber-Libertarian Milton Friedman and ardent shareholder value advocate T.J. Rodgers, founder/CEO of Cypress Semiconductor.
As I mentioned, this article is a very deep dive into the philosophies of mixing business values and with social values so it ain’t casual reading … dig?
The great thing about Mackey’s blog is comments are open.
Finally a company that not only talks the talk, but walks the walk. You see far too many companies today donate profits to charity solely for their own good (good PR). Citigroup comes to mind. It doesn't seem to be the case with Whole Foods though. Just reading this article, the CEO seems like he trully cares about his company's social responsibilty and doing what is right. Not very common is today's corporate landscape. I guess this is one of the reason's they are so successful. They don't act like your typical money hungry large company.

A CEO that open the doors for consumers is more than GREAT!
But how about to become ONE with the consumers and work with integrated like Linux?
Could that be the next step?
