I am frustrated. Not pissed off … BUT FRUSTRATED.
I am not able to conquer Tom Peter’s tome … Re-imagine. I’ve been a voracious reader of business books for years now … and … have conquered them all.
All … EXCEPT … Re-imagine.
Am I not worthy? Do I need to buy the audio CD?
If I do buy the audio CD, will he follow the ellipses appropriately and how loud will he SCREAM the words in ALL CAPS?
To say Re-imagine is chock-full of delicious strategic sound-bites ... thought-provoking discussion ... and great business advice is an UNDERSTATEMENT of magnanimous proportions ... I want to learn all this book has to offer ... BUT HOW?
SERIOUSLY ... I NEED your HELP!
If you have read Re-imagine, please offer up how you tackled this bad boy … cuz I need help … BIG-TIME.
Thank you for helping this poor marketing sap.
I have read the whole thing straight through. I just remember the headache after getting done with it.
I recently went back through it to put an entry together for the 800-CEO-READ blog. I am was able to retain some more of the content.
I think what you do it put an appointment on your calendar to look at it once a quarter. When the appointment comes up, ask yourself what problem you are facing and see what Tom has to say.
It is unlike other books that you read to find out about one subject. Tom references 81 books in this book.
I think of it as a business encyclopedia.

It is a hard book... no question. Mine is covered with Post-it note flags along all three edges (the kind with arrows on the end) pointing at stuff I wanted to go back to. That helped some.
I'm halfway through the audible.com spoken version (read by Tom himself) and yes, it is a bit more linear. I find myself fliping through the chapter I'm listening to on occasion to check off how the reading tracks to the layout.

I think Todd has an excellent point. I have attempted a complete read-thru of the book twice, and what part stands out to me? The part on marketing to women and boomers... which happens to be of the utmost importance to me right now. Trying to absorb the whole book is like trying to get your arms around the world... it's just too big, and all over the place.
