Seeking Feedback from YOU

There wasn’t a master plan behind the Brand Autopsy blog when it began in December 2003. This website was simply a way for me to share some HMOs (hot marketing opinions) and links to interesting goings-on in the marketing world.

In doing this blog, I quickly learned the more I shared, the more I learned. Thus, I kept at it ... sharing more and learning more.

I have no desire to stop blogging. However, I do have a desire to get feedback from you about the Brand Autopsy blog.

Let me know what you would like to read MORE OF, LESS OF, and/or NONE OF.

Yeah, I write a lot about Starbucks Coffee and Whole Foods Market. (Can't help it.) I also write about Business Books, along with miscellaneous musings on Business Strategy and Marketing Strategy. Of these areas I write about, what do you want to read MORE OF, LESS OF, and/or NONE OF.

The comments section is open … have at it. I’m listening and will respond when I return from a short blogging vacation.

Stop using the word "chewy" and "nugget" in every other post.

Other than that, great blog John.

Frankly, I want you to write about whatever interests you. That's the only way BA will continue to be a fresh, honest, entertaining read. Thanks for the resource.

(Oh, and a lot more chewy nuggets! ;-)

John, the BA is a daily read for me. And when I found you in 03 it was a small blog world. Now the BA is a must read in a dizzing landscape of marketing blogs. I like my BA with meat sauce.

Write more about me and my profound impact on you.

Or, write about marketing. No matter what, I like what you write. You're interesting. You introduced me to The Q/A Manifesto. You were my 8th grade crush (I had such good taste.)

Seriously, I love your blog. I don't often comment, but I always enjoy it!

I feel that you should cover other industries also. Is brand confined to only retailers?
There is online market also. There is consulting market also. There are other markets. Cover these other markets also.
You have a great blog. Great work. Your blog is something I wont skip in my RSS reader.

John, the blog is a daily go-to ever since hearing you speak at WOMMA, and the posts I enjoy the most are your Would You Miss series - I'd love to see more of them. Keep up the great work.

John, I say keep on keeping on. Your writing has an engaging and lively tone. I see no need to change for the sake of change.

I think what I enjoy most about this blog is the surprise. I read the posts every day, and I am frequently pleasantly surprised... there's some insight and I think "I could use that". Now to be sure, this doesn't happen every single day; some weeks you have to eat a lot of Whole Foods organic flakes to get to the free prize at the bottom of the box. But the writing is consistently good and engaging. I would like to see you seek out new and upcoming brands and comment on how they are being shaped and formed, rather more than the tried and true Starbucks stories.

John BA could continue as it is and it would be great. However if like Karthick says, you could cover other industries that would be fantastic.

Rock on!

John - I've been reading your blog - and passing it on to other - for about 2 years now. I'm just tired of hearing about Starbucks. Not just from you, but from business analysts and other blogs and the news and everywhere else. As other posters have mentioned, there are other industries and tons of other businesses and organizations that we'd like to hear your insights on!

John - I feel positive sentiment like the others, but I would love to see your strategy recommendations for more retailers or other lines of business with a similar structure.
Keep up on the book reviews and other activities! Thanks a bunch.

Don't remember how I discovered this blog but it's a daily read for me. Love the Starbucks stuff, keep it coming. Would love to see more in-depth reviews of the books. Keep up the good work!

Same here - not sure how I stumbled on your blog, but it's a daily read for sure (I even get a little sad inside when you don't post for a day or two).

Definitely keep up with the book reviews and the "would you miss" series.

I agree with Matt - any strategy recommendations for other lines of business - like effective branding for professional services firms.?!!

Write what you are passionate and inspired about, that is really what drives this blog's success, and ultimately your career/hobby of business and marketing.

Passion is the difference, the change agent that determines the impact of a leader regardless of industry.

If it wasn't for your passion, starbucks/whole foods would have been a horse long beaten dead. But the new life, new potential, and new energy that you find in these companies and products compel and inspire us to read and eagerly give our own input.

John, your blog sets a new standard. I enjoy reading your unique perspectives on business/marketing and cherish that you don't rely on marketing jargon (or what I call "gobbledy-gook") to make your points.

Keep up the great dialogue! Checking in with your blog is a part of my morning routine.

I love the "Would You Miss..." features. Regardless of the brand, I always click through and read those. I also tend to prefer when you look at specific brands as opposed to the higher level conceptual stuff.

Still, I've weeded out my marketing feeds many times over the past year and never even considered deleting this one so you must be doing something right.

Keep up the great work!

I would love to hear not just WHAT you're learning, but where and how you're learning it. It's great to have to links to those little crumbs of education.

I also love hearing when a business does something truly gutsy with their brand, and the times you've delivered that news, it's been really insightful.

Finally, and most important-- the more specific you are about a business and its opportunities, the more interested I am. I was totally engrossed in your update about "My Starbucks Idea." Maybe this isn't true of every reader; some people like more general branding how-to's, but I think generalities are too commonplace. They might seem to have more outsider appeal, but I find it's more intriguing to read something with insider appeal, even as an outsider. It makes me feel like I actually AM an insider, if just for a few minutes.

John-

I've been reading regularly since 03. I miss the way-worthy read posts. They never failed to stimulate a book purchase from me, and they saved me from purchasing more than one stinker. You seem to have replaced them with your quote slideshares, which I find less valuable. Still BA is on my favorites list.

Generally, i'm looking for as many social media case studies as possible. Hope that helps.

Hmmm, as you know I'm down right straightfoward and brutally honest (which is why people read my blog) so...

For God's sakes let freakin Starbucks go! Post on a myriad of topics. Whatever turns you on but please, no more Starbucks!

John... I'd like to see a post or two from behind the scenes at Brand Autopsy. Perhaps a look into a day in the life of John Moore... in video format... with some of your favorite brands in the background... I could see it starting off in a Ferris Bueller opening monologue kind of way... Think about it... You could be the Walrus

I find the ongoing Starbucks pre-mortem really helpful. I love 'Would you miss . . . ' and like others here, I just plain enjoy your writing style and insights. Unlike others I haven't noticed any overuse of the words 'chewy' and 'nugget', but I'll help make this the top Google result for those if I can ;)

As a tiny little business providing consulting to other tiny little businesses it'd be helpful to me to see occasional focus on small service-related businesses, but since you're a daily read already, even if nothing changed I'd still be here.

The presentation you did at the AAF Lake Charles luncheon really left a mark on me and I've been reading your blog daily ever since. I appreciate your perspectives and that's why I keep coming back. Even when your topics don't directly relate to what I do I still manage to glean some wisdom from them. Keep blogging and giving us a peak at branding through your eyes. That's what will keep me coming back. Thanks John. -O

Hey Your blog is a daily must read. Wish you would look at the Asian angle and include. All the very best.

John, I love reading your blog; your writing style is entertaining and to the point and the topics you cover are interesting and relevant.

Definitely go on, John! You are on my reading list. An overdose of Starbucks? Naah..

I have only been reading for a few weeks and have been a steady reader since. I find your topics interesting and different from most blogs.

Regards, Gregory

Starbucks overkill.

I would love to see you diversify your brand analysis to a broader range of companies...

Don't think. Blog.

Hi John - I just discovered your blog this week - via a link from Seth Godin's Blog on the Borders article.

I like what I have read so far. It is a bit eclectic and I like that. Furthermore, you write with passion - and that what makes me want to read more. And to pass on a link to your site to my colleagues.

Enjoy your rest. I look forward to your return.

I am new to BA, but it is great so far!

My company is doing a lot of branding through video and the web. Branded content is in huge demand. I love this blog and the insight you guys provide. Check us out at phearcreative.com

dr john...you have been doing this too long to stop now....keep it going

John,

I love the blog.

I like "Would you miss..." quite a bit.

I go to you for info on Starbucks. Even though you write a lot about it, I actually trust what you have to say, so I appreciate that you write about it. It's not overkill.

I'd like to see you give more insight into the online marketing world.

I like your blogging pace...I'd rather have one of your blog posts compared to 10 of most others. It drives me crazy that marketing bloggers feel the need to blog so much. Just keep the content solid, and your pace consistent.

Thanks for all the free advice.
