Buzzing Buzz-o-Phone

Buzzophone_1

Matt Galloway’s infatuation with Word-of-Mouth Marketing is now officially his avocation. He recently launched Buzz-o-Phone, an experiment where people can dial 1-800-591-5375 to rant or rave about companies they loath or love. Matt will then package the rants/raves into a podcast. Cool concept as it mixes old school tools with new school rules.

John, thanks for the buzz!

Very cool. Nice to see a fellow Tulsa blogger use his brains. Still waiting to do that myself. Way to go Matt!

What is the incentive for people to call in? I can't see why someone would bother to take the time out of their day to do this. What's in it for them?

Laura, great question. The answer is that I don't know. I'm not sure people wil call - but I'm hoping they will.

But in lieu of knowing, let me speculate. I think people will call because it's fun and it's easy and because people want to be heard. Lot's of people, including you, take LOTS of time out of their day to maintain a blog. (nice blog BTW). Buzz-o-phone takes much less time and, if it becomes popular, will require no reputation building for individual callers. Lot's of folks have occational product passion moments - "Man, I can't beleive that company is doing THIS?" or "I couldn't have done it without my trust (INSERT PRODUCT HERE)." When this happens, people like to share. Increasingly it is this collective knowledge that is steerinf buying decisions. As consumers, we WANT others to make the same purchasing decisions WE did in order to validate our decision. This is another reason we recommend.

So, will anyone call? A few people already have and I think more will. Consumers are looking for connection in a disconnected world, Buzz-o-phone might be a way to do just that. I'm just hoping Buzz-o-phone make somebody smile.

Let me ask this Laura, have you listened to Buzz-o-phone? Hmmm.

Hey, I have an idea. Laura, I think you should call Buzz-o-phone (800-951-5375) and share you thoughts on why you can't imagine why anyone would call Buzz-o-phone with the rest of the Buzz-o-phone audience. Be sure to mention you blog and maybe someone will contact you to explain why they would call.

Thanks for thinking about Buzz-o-phone.

Thanks for the response Matt. I DO think it's a neat idea, I was just questioning the viability of it is a business model because it depends on having people call in and I wasn't sure the incentive was there. No, I haven't listened to Buzz-o-Phone, as I responded to the post right away after reading it and hadn't heard of Buzz-o-Phone until then.

I would be willing to take time out of my day for my blog but not for this service because first of all, my blog is my own initiative. This phone number is yours. And I love writing and connecting with my readers and the blogging community. So there are reasons why I would invest my time specifically in my blog that might not translate to other ventures or media, such as this number. And I'm much more comfortable with writing than with speaking, and don't really have any more to say on the topic, so I will pass on calling in.

Laura-
Buzzophone is an intertaining concept for lots of reasons. However, one of them is the ability to make a comment on the quick and dirty. A blog entry (or comment) is usually made with some editing. Points are made with some consideration. Having been under the buzzophone time limit; you get one shot; two minutes; make it count. buzzophone is the drive-by shooting of the marketing world.
